Do you take a slower route to collect additional benefits, or rush toward the action that fits your current strategy? What impressed us most is how natural this system feels after only a few turns. Many rondel games can feel like they are limiting player freedom. Entropy achieves the opposite effect. The board is full of options, and movement becomes another strategic resource to manage rather than a restriction to overcome.

The interaction between players also adds subtle tension. Occupied spaces increase movement costs, meaning that the actions of other players can influence your plans without creating direct conflict. This creates a pleasant level of interaction that feels meaningful without becoming frustrating.

One of Entropy’s greatest strengths is the sense of progression it creates throughout the game. At the beginning, your personal area contains very little. A few turns later, stars begin appearing. Normally, a list like this would suggest a game struggling under its own complexity. Fortunately, Entropy does an impressive job connecting these systems together. Stars help power future actions. Biomes improve efficiency. Life cards contribute to objectives and scoring opportunities. Console upgrades strengthen future turns. Resources generated in one area often become essential elsewhere.

The result is a web of interconnected decisions where nearly every action supports several future possibilities. This level of integration gives the game its strongest moments. As engines develop, turns become increasingly satisfying. Actions trigger bonuses, which unlock additional effects, which generate resources, which enable further actions. For experienced eurogamers, this learning curve is unlikely to be a major obstacle. Newer players, however, should be prepared for a substantial teach.

If there is one element that felt slightly less impactful than the rest of the design, it would be the Mission cards. The rewards can certainly be useful, and they provide additional direction for players seeking guidance. However, compared to the game’s core systems, they occasionally feel somewhat detached from the most interesting decisions taking place on the board.

This is hardly a major issue. Missions remain functional and occasionally valuable. They simply lack the same excitement generated by building solar systems, evolving life, or constructing powerful action engines. Given how strong the surrounding systems are, this stands out more than it otherwise might.

Table Presence and Component Footprint

Entropy presents a visually impressive table presence. As players build increasingly elaborate solar systems, the table gradually fills with stars, planets, biomes, lifeforms, and resources. The game successfully communicates a sense of growth and development through its physical components. That said, the game requires a considerable amount of space.

Between the central board, player areas, various decks, resources, and objectives, Entropy demands a large table. Players with limited gaming space may need to plan accordingly. Still, the growing visual complexity contributes significantly to the overall experience.

Replayability Through Strategic Variety

Replayability appears strong. Different objectives, varying Life card combinations, alternative upgrade paths, and multiple scoring opportunities ensure that no two games unfold exactly the same way.

More importantly, the game encourages experimentation. After one session, players often begin thinking about alternative approaches they would like to explore next time. The learning curve is certainly substantial, and some groups may experience downtime as engines become more powerful and turns more complex. Mission cards also feel slightly less exciting than the rest of the design. Nevertheless, these issues do little to overshadow what Entropy does well.

For players who enjoy medium-heavy eurogames filled with combo building, interconnected systems, and meaningful strategic choices, Entropy is an easy game to recommend. It manages to feel both mechanically rich and surprisingly thematic, offering a rewarding experience that becomes more enjoyable as players learn its many layers.
